TomTom was born in May 2026 on a farm in Alabama. Upon being born, the farmer noticed that the little calf seemed to be struggling to nurse from his mother. Observations showed that TomTom had limited sight, appearing to be completely blind in one eye, with minimal sight in the other. This made it difficult for him to track his mother and find her teats to drink her milk, especially in a large group including other cows and their calves. The farmer removed him to be bottle fed and ultimately decided he would be unsafe growing up in the main pasture due to the barbed and electric wire that ran the perimeter of their property.
The farmer reached out to Dominion Farm Sanctuary in Fairhope, Alabama, with hopes TomTom could find a safe home there. Upon hearing about the calf’s limited sight, founder Amanda reached out to the Critter Creek team, wondering if our own resident blind calf, Esmé, would be a good fit as a companion to TomTom.
The team agreed that bringing TomTom to the sanctuary would be beneficial for both Esmé and little TomTom, as they can grow together, learning to navigate the world through their eyes that both see the world a bit differently than the other animals on the property. Esmé will be introduced to TomTom in the coming months once he graduates from his quarantine pen to make sure he tests negative for any communicable diseases before meeting his new forever found family.
