Zura and the rest of her herd came to us from a neglect case in July 2019. Zura is ginormous in size and attitude, and she is completely in charge; no one dares to challenge her. But she is also mystical and gorgeous and leads her herd with pride… and sass. Sam, our animal caretaker and equine specialist, dedicated herself to helping Zura and her herd adjust to proper care, particularly addressing their badly neglected hooves.
Zura is in an on-and-off battle with canker: a rare hoof disease. She has been through surgery and many rounds of cryotherapy. Canker is not well researched, but because of our equine team, we are able to catch it in time whenever it rears its ugly head.
